Aluminum Alloy Sacrificial Anode is an electrochemical protection method that utilizes the electrochemical activity of aluminum alloy anode material to preferentially dissolve in an electrolyte environment, releasing electrons to protect the metal structure from corrosion. Its working principle is as follows:
In an electrolyte environment (such as seawater, soil, etc.), the aluminum alloy sacrificial anode, due to its more negative potential compared to the protected metal structure, acts as the negative electrode in a corrosion cell and dissolves preferentially, releasing electrons. The resulting current flows to the protected metal structure, lowering its potential and placing it in a cathodic state, thereby inhibiting its corrosion reaction1.
Performance Characteristics
- High Electrochemical Performance: Aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes have a high electrical output per unit weight of anode material, approximately three times that of zinc anodes and twice that of magnesium anodes. They perform well in seawater and other media containing chloride ions, with strong self-regulating capability for current output.
- Strong Corrosion Protection Capability: In seawater and other media containing chloride ions, aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes can provide effective cathodic protection for metal structures, preventing corrosion1.
- Long Service Life: Aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes have a relatively long service life, reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacement, thereby lowering maintenance costs1.
- Easy Installation and Maintenance: Aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes can be directly fixed to the protected structure without the need for backfill, making installation and maintenance relatively convenient1.
Application Scope
Aluminum alloy sacrificial anodes are widely used in various fields:
- Ships and Marine Engineering: Used to protect metal components such as ship hulls, propellers, and rudders, as well as for cathodic protection of large marine engineering structures like offshore oil platforms and offshore wind power platforms1.
- Storage Tanks and Pipelines: Used to protect the internal metal surfaces of drinking water storage tanks, chemical storage tanks, etc., from corrosion, and to prevent subsea oil and gas pipelines from seawater corrosion1.
- Bridges and Infrastructure: In freshwater environments, used for cathodic protection of structures such as bridge foundations and sluice gates, and also for protecting the foundation structures of cross-sea bridges1.
- Port Engineering Facilities: Used to protect metal structures such as dock steel piles and mooring posts from seawater corrosion, as well as for anti-corrosion projects of breakwaters
